The original fresh water system consisted of a 60 gallon
tank mounted in an insulated box on the galley roof gravity feeding the entire
boat. Fortunately the en-suite shower fitted in the master's bedroom is a power
shower, otherwise I would still be taking my first one!
The task
consisted of installing a new, much larger, water tank internally and the more
usual 12v water pump. That was simpler said than done! As I did not want to
carry out a complete strip and refit, then I had to find somewhere to install a
tank. Under the saloon floor was the obvious choice as there was of-the-order
of a 22 inch gap between the conversion floor and the original hold floor, the
galley floor was only app 8 inches above the hold floor. However, owing to the
large amount of vertical supports for the current floor, this proved to be
impracticable, so a new location needed to be found. My decision was to install
2 banks of 4 smaller tanks either side in the fore cabin.
The fore cabin was, and still is (Krystyna's studio is work in progress.....), fitted out with two single berths, so the space under these was available and consequently that is where the tanks are, with a vast amount of interconnecting plumbing! A single Shureflo 12v high-capacity pump was installed, along with a tank level monitor, and connected into the existing plumbing. A single pump installation was chosen, rather than the more usual twin-pump system used on these larger vessels, as I would have had to replace a lot of existing 15mm pipework, something I did not really want to do. So the bath takes a while to fill, we're in no hurry these days.
