The existing galley, whilst functional, was in reality
just that and not a little tired. The plan was to completely replace the
worktop, sink and gas cooker, the reality turned out to be a more-or-less
complete rebuild of the entire area. It was already obvious that the existing
toilet cubicle was to be removed, what transpired was that just about
everything else was as well! Lighting was re-jigged and plumbing and gas piping
moved. The flooring was made good where the various bits of existing furniture
had been removed, or where the new furniture exhibited a different
footprint.
The worktop area, with its interesting coloured tiles (!) was
removed and a new (Ikea) set of cupboards fitted. Having spent the last 3 years
cooking on Draco using only a ceramic hob and oven, I had decided, as there was
already a gas installation on Janna (cooker only), that I was going to have a
gas range, so a suitable was found and installed.
Krystyna then decided
that the shelving unit on the other side of the galley was, essentially, a
waste of space and not very nice to look at anyway. Consequently, the shelving
unit was removed and another set of Ikea cabinets and worktop were
installed.
Two bookcases have also been installed against the forward
bulkhead.
